Safe Yakima Valley REACH Coalition is Proud to Be Drug-Free!

The Drug Free Communities Support Program (DFC) is nationally recognized for its success in achieving reduced drug use and misuses in communities throughout the country to levels lower than the national average.

Holding Hands

The DFC is the Nation’s leading effort to mobilize communities to prevent youth substance use by providing grants to community coalitions like Safe's REACH coalition to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use. As a nationally recognized and federally funded DFC grant recipient, Safe Yakima REACH is confident in the pursuit of our mission and rising to the challenge of creating youth substance use prevention resources for our community.

Purpose of DFC Funding

Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, public and private non-profit agencies, and Federal, state, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions

Reduce substance use among youth and, over time, among adults

Work We Do

Safe Yakima Valley REACH serves as a Yakima County-wide convening organization tasked with building strategic partnerships, facilitating collaborative planning efforts, and coordinating resources to measurably reduce drug, alcohol and tobacco availability/accessibility among youth in our community.

Using data from the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey, Safe will implement programs to address youth tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drug use/misuse through a variety of strategies and campaigns to achieve our mission and vision.

Our Partners

Safe Yakima Valley will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies, the DEA, local schools, treatment providers, and other community members to develop and disseminate educational materials for youth and community audiences to increase awareness about the harms of youth marijuana use, the dangers of alcohol and prescription drug misuse, and mental health issues and resources in Yakima County.

Training for new and ongoing members

Safe will also provide necessary training to new coalition members and staff and ongoing training to existing coalition members and staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about local issues and informed on the strategies to effectively address the local problems.

REACH has a twelve sector membership responsible for overseeing the implementation of the activities of the grant.

Representatives/volunteers from the 12 sectors organize and meet to address local youth substance use. Together, as a coalition, they are driven by local conditions to implement local solutions that will build a safe, healthy, and drug-free community.
